Kim Joon

(Korean, born 1966)

Kim Joon is a contemporary Korean artist who examines the meaning of tattoos as a social phenomenon. Kim’s work explores themes of desire, memory, and youth through porcelain sculptures and digitally manipulated images of nude bodies. “I see skin, or in some cases the monitor, as an extension of a canvas,” he has explained. Born in 1966 in Seoul, Korea, he went on to attend Hongik University in his hometown before serving in the Korean military. The artist’s works have since been displayed around the world, including at the Total Museum in Seoul, the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Kwachon, Korea, and the Canvas International Art Gallery in Amsterdam. He continues to live and work in Seoul, Korea.
