Description
‘Long Biên Bridge 7’ is a large contemporary cityscape oil on canvas painting created by Vietnamese artist Le Quy Tong in 2012. Featuring a grey, brown and soft blue palette, the painting focuses our attention on the Long Biên bridge, a historic cantilever bridge across the Red River that connects two districts, Hoan Kiem and Long Bien of the city of Hanoi, Vietnam. The strong diagonal invites us in, leading our eye towards the back of the composition. Born in Hanoi, Le Quy Tong graduated from the oil painting department at Hanoi Fine Art University where he received his M.F.A in 2001. Tong sees the movement of the people and things as part of the life and rhythm of Hanoi. He brings new emotion and mood to the city through his use of grey tones and limited colors. The gestural brushstrokes and movement of the paint are alive and vibrant. His series of "Bridge" paintings has received great accolades from the art cognoscenti and the public. This collection is indeed inspired by the Long Biên Bridge, which is not only a part of Hanoi's physical landscape but also a potent symbol of its spirit. Spanning the river through times of war and peace, the bridge, although old and worn now, still carries the legends and stories of the ancient city it serves. With its soft, muted palette and great vertical proportions, this unframed oil on canvas cityscape painting will be an exquisite addition to any room, whether placed above an enfilade, sofa or console table.
Le Quy Tong’s works are collected internationally including the Bodnar Art Collection, have been sold at auction including Larasati in Hong Kong and are in the Vietnam Museum of Fine Art.
