Ling Jian

(Chinese, born 1963)

Ling Jian is a contemporary Chinese painter best known for his portraits of Asian women in surreal, sexualized environments. Reminiscent of the polished works of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, Ling’s stylized paintings address issues of identity and female beauty within Chinese society. Born in 1963 in Weifang, China, he graduated from the Academy of Arts and Design at Tshingua University in 1986. The artist has been the subject of exhibitions at Schoeni Art Gallery in Hong Kong and Klein Sun Gallery in New York. Ling lives and works between Beijing, China and Berlin, Germany.
