Biography
Marc Newson is an Australian designer known for his chairs, shoes, and watches. Often collaborating with companies such as Nike, Newson’s most successful design has been the Nike Air Vapormax sneaker which was released in 2017. “I'm always working. Like a lot of creative people I can't switch off. I can't disassociate work from pleasure. My job is my hobby,” he has explained. Born on October 20, 1963 in Sydney, Australia, he went on to study jewelry and sculpture at the Sydney College of the Arts. After graduating, his first major success came with the 1986 Lockheed Lounge, a chaise lounge made from aluminum and fiberglass. Since then, Newson has continued to act an innovator in the design world and his varied works often cross over into fine art. The designer currently lives and works in London, United Kingdom. Today, his works are held in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, among others.
