Description
"Boat shapes have always been one of the important themes in my sculptural vocabulary. My first foray into boats came when I installed a fleet of Tyvec origami boats six to nine feet long in the Sacramento River. They represented the ephemeral quality of human endeavor along the banks of the river for over one hundred years. Since then, I have made boats of grass, wood, porcelain and bronze. Boats are metaphors for our journey through life. Viewers can project their own moments of emotion or experience on them. They contain feelings of journey, transition, hardship, and happiness that we all experience in our lives. This particular boat reflects my feelings about the current state of our world at this time."
Hoeber has exhibited widely in Northern California. Her experience encompasses sculpture for public art installations, gallery work and commissions in a wide variety of media, including bronze, steel, wood, plastic, glass, ceramic, neon, adobe, and poetry.
