Description
The central motif of this work is a blossoming flower, which in itself is comprised of layers of painted shapes. However, the majority of complexity in this painting is found in its decorative framing devices. Two vertical columns flank the left and right of this floral motif. The pillars in question are a cropping and duplication of a butt mid section of a human form. This abstracting of the human form turned endless column mimics what can be seen as natures ability to create repletion in variation inside its natural shapes as can be seen in leaf shapes, flower petals, or blades of grass. Furthermore, the column of butts travels off the boarders of the top and bottom of the canvas, highlighting the space of the painting as a stage, its central motif the protagonist, and like in spring and early summer, our favorite floral characters come out to greet us once again. This fragmented butt column first appeared in my work in the form of drawings in 2014, these works were exhibited for the first time in Basel at the space Elaine, Museum für Gegenwartskunst. I have decided to return to these shapes in emory and site specificity to my parcours presentation and a dedication to the artistic community here in Basel.
