Michael Cardinali

Biography
Timeline
Michael is a New York-based photographer of the pre-digital, pre-35mm, large format tradition. Residing in Astoria, Queens, Cardinali travels outside of and through the city to capture images, and spends an equal if not greater amount of time in his Downtown darkroom. The artists presents his perspectives of the breathtaking countryside of New York and New Jersey (such as 'Apple Orchard, Spring') as well as the greenery and architecture that form varying landscapes within New York City itself.
Michael uses black & white film in his 8x10 inch and 4x5 inch cameras and prints the images full frame - therefore, the compositions must be finalized at the time of shooting. In the darkroom, Cardinali prints on rag paper using the platinum-palladium process; the result is a depth of tonal range easily recognizable in all his work.
