Description
Over the course of three summers from 2007-2009, Michele Oka Doner and Wildwood Press printed twelve colossal figures including Prairie. Printed using collected plant material from her hometown of Miami Beach, Michele arranged the various organic materials - Banyan Tree roots, Sargassum seaweed, Sea Oat Grass Roots among them - on the press in the form of a figure. Inked and then printed on Wildwood’s handmade paper from Kozo (the interior bark of a Mulberry tree) the entire work is an amalgam of natural fiber. Five of these figures are included in Michele’s retrospective, How I Caught a Swallow in Midair, currently at the Pérez Art Museum in Miami.
