Description
Ming Fay draws upon nature for inspiration. The Ginko is one of the world's oldest species of tree. One thought to be extinct, these living fossils have existed for more than 200 million years and are known for their healing powers. During the Miocene era, the Pacific Northwest had a sub-tropical climate and Ginko trees are abundant throughout the region.
Edward J. Hand, "Artist Ming Fay commissioned for Oregon Convention Centre expansion," in The Asian Reporter, 2003
This graceful Ginkoberry Gwa comes in pairs. The artist has extended their healing power in a way that conveys their calmingness when simply placing them on a floor. Ming first made Ginkoberry Gwa in a commissioned project for Oregon Convention Center in 2002 to celebrate the region as a place about trees. By aesthetically combining the seeds of the ancient Ginko with blossoms of the magical Gwakalekala, Ming Fay has transformed the Oregon Centre's Convention into a space annex representative of life.
