Description
‘Tribal Indochine Woman 2’ is a large photorealist oil on canvas painting created by Vietnamese artist Nguyen Quang Huy in 2008. Featuring a captivating white, grey and black palette, the painting depicts a close view of a southeastern Asian woman, looking at us directly. Her magnificent headdress attracts our attention while her direct eye contact invites us into her world. The countryside north of Hanoi has a multitude of ethnicities inhabiting their lands. Well known are the so-called 'highland' people or ethnic minorities residing in the mountainous areas. Huy has traveled there many times over the years and gotten to know the people and their ways of life. The result is a series of photo realistic paintings of the women wearing head ware which symbolizes the tribe they are from. His paintings reflect the misty dreamlike coolness of the mountains and cultural aspects and the beauty of the female inhabitants.
