‘Bull Song’ is a large contemporary lacquer on wood figurative painting of horizontal format created by Vietnamese artist Nguyen Xuan Anh in 2013. Featuring an exquisite palette made of brown, grey, black and gold tones, the painting is made of two panels that, put together, depict a musician playing the flute sitting on what appears to be a bull, while two additional ones stand on the left side of the composition in a frontal position. The brown background, highlighted with golden touches, leads our eye to its upper triangular accents, shaped as steep mountains and topped with a grey sky with mesmerizing clouds. This grey accentuation is ingeniously placed throughout the composition, moving from the upper section, to the bulls and finally the various birds that are pecking the ground. The artist played beautifully between linearity and curves, as well as the warmth of the brown and gold contrasted with the cold grey fields.
