Ola Kolehmainen
(Finnish, born 1964)
Biography
Ola Kolehmainen is a contemporary Finnish photographer. Best known for his large-scale color prints, Kolehmainen's work explores the effects of light on architecture. Often deliberately confusingly abstract and Minimalist, his photographs culminate in blocks of color or disjointed geometries that resemble mid-century Color Field painting. His influences include the work of Conceptual artists such as Donald Judd, Dan Flavin, and James Turrell, who helped shape the photographer’s high-concept practice. Born in 1964 in Helsinki, Finland, he went on to graduate from the University of Industrial Arts in 1999, and later became associated with the Helsinki School of artists, grouped together for their shared aesthetic and use of the photographic process as a conceptual tool.
