Five, 32 inch long curled strips of off white porcelain are articulated with fissures created through the interaction of fibreglass filaments inserted into the wet clay before firing in this bas relief sculpted wall installation. The materials, color and title of this piece speak to the simultaneity of fragility and strength.

Paula Murray’s porcelain sculptures have been described by art critic Nancy Baele as “fusions of near rupture and serene beauty, echoing nature and the human body in their forms.” Her delicate vessels examine the invisible boundary between the physical and spiritual worlds and the sense of wonder evoked by life’s mysteries.

Murray has received many honors and awards and was elected into the RCA in 2006. Her work was selected for the 5th World Ceramic Biennale 2009 Korea, Icheon and again in 2015. She was included in the Masterworks Ontario Crafts Council Travelling Exhibition, and her work was exhibited at the Jingdezhen International Ceramic Fair, Jingdezhen Ceramic Museum, China. Murray's award-winning work has earned international acclaim and has been given to dignitaries such as US President George W. Bush and UN Secretary Kofi Annan by the Canadian government. Murray’s pieces can be found in private and public collections including Canadian Museum of Civilization, the Banff Centre, the Gardiner Museum, Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Official Residence of the Prime Minister in Canada and Canada House in London England.
