This piece stands out in the repertoire of Perle Fine's collage work because of the vivacity of the color.  The stunning red background and the line of beautiful deep blue is evocative and captivating.  Sometime around 1959 Fine began to make a series of gouache and collage work on paper. This series, called her " Fold-over Series," incorporated delightful cutout shapes with a touch of whimsy that are reminiscent of Matisse's late paper cutouts.
