Peter Hoffer’s landscapes have one foot in classic realism and the other in deconstruction. Often Hoffer uses mixed media on wood with high gloss resin, but this particular work is painted on linen with clay, silicate and pigment. This painting is of the iconic Bauhaus art school in Germany that combined crafts and the fine arts, and was famous for the approach to design that it publicized and taught. It operated from 1919 to 1933.

"These paintings draw attention to areas of the landscape that can be considered “less than spectacular”. As such, they force the viewer to search for landmarks or meaning. Peter Hoffer holds an MFA. from Concordia University and degrees from the University of Guelph and OCAD University. He has lived and worked in Toronto, New York City, Paris, Montreal and Berlin.

Hoffer's paintings can evoke nostalgia for romantic forms and periods. In his new work, he explores fashion and still life using trompe l'oeil imagery and vintage collage. These works are housed in plexiglass boxes. Hoffer has exhibited widely at art fairs in Basel, Toronto, New York, Stockholm, London, Milan, Amsterdam and Hong Kong. His paintings are held in many private, corporate and public collections including the Musée des Beaux Arts, the Musée du Quèbec and the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery.
