Powerful life-sized sculpture, entitled the Dawning of a New Day (L'aube du Jour).

The deer, used to represent the Christ figure in medieval and renaissance art merges with a stainless steel androgynous and mechanized human torso. The body is missing limbs, echoing the broken forms of classical Greek sculpture. The viewer is reflected in the mirrored surfaces of the highly polished steel. This work is intended for indoor display only.

Constructed of patches of highly polished stainless steel integrated with electronic PC cards dotted with soldered capacitors and inductors, and an antlered taxidermied deer head, this 7.5 foot tall sculpture offers a provocative intersection of technology, art and nature reflecting a theme evolution, the merging of different life forms, a challenge to traditional ideas of the half-human, half-divine found in antiquated religious texts.

Philippe Pallafray is a member of the Sculptors Society of Canada and of the Conseil des métiers d’art du Québec. Born in France, he emigrated to Canada ten years ago and currently lives on Ile d’Orléans, Québec. He uses steel and stainless steel that he cuts, shapes, folds, and welds.

Pallafray likes to use geometric and curved forms in his sculptures to tame and play with light. His sculptures have been exhibited in Canada and the United States, both as part of group and solo exhibitions. They are also part of public and private collections in Canada, France, and the United States. In 2016 he was artist-in-residence in Saint-Georges de Beauce, Québec, to create the sculpture Aquagraphie for Veilleux Park.
