Qin Qi

(Chinese, born 1975)

Qin Qi is a Chinese contemporary painter who primarily works with oil paint on canvas. Many of his paintings are characterized by their surreal elements, in which he reimagines ordinary objects or landscapes in unfamiliar contexts. “They are simultaneously ordinary and beyond the ordinary experience,” he said about his work. Qin was born in 1975 in Shanxi, China and graduated from the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in Shenyang, China in 1999, specializing in oil painting. He received his Master’s Degree from the same university in 2002, where he continues to teach today. Qin’s works reconfigure various everyday objects in new settings and compositions, aiming to go beyond the usual contexts of these items. Qin has shown in exhibitions and art fairs across the world, including the Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts in Taipei, the Minsheng Art Museum in Shanghai, and the Prague Biennale.
