Rispal (Co.)

(French, XX)

Jean Rispal, founder and namesake of the Rispal Furnishings company, was a French designer notable for his work in light fixtures. Rispal gained critical and commercial acclaim for his iconic floor lamp design, nicknamed the Praying Mantis, which borrowed heavily from aesthetically organic Scandinavian design. With bodies constructed from teak and mahogany, Rispal adorned his lamps with shades fashioned out of braided wire and pleated paper. A foremost proponent of mid-century Modern design, Rispal's works are now held in museums such as the Beaubourg Museum in Paris, France.
