Description
Rotating standing screen double-sided embroidery on a synthetic transparent matrix, using 10-12 different stitches and featuring a special application of the “Bundle Stitch” in the details of snow on the principle tree trunk; many irregular sizes of this stitch were used, and this application was a considered a great break from the way this stitch was traditionally applied in a uniform size. The stylized border is called “Cho Sha,” and is single thread “random” stitched to simulate broken ice. The piece took 1 1/2 years to complete.
Principle Embroiders: Mei Quiying, Trees; Zhang Pei, “Chuo Sha” Border.
Based on a gelatin-silver print from the portfolio: Winters, 1970-1980; View in a Storm, 1973
Image size: 16 3/4 x 20 3/4 inches; Framed:
