Additional Details
Provenance: Private collection, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Just as he was achieving national recognition for his paintings, Robert Gordy contracted AIDS, which at that time was a little understood and terminal disease. He started to move away from his time-consuming, clean-edged, stylized and elegant paintings, which he referred to as "Gordy's" toward expressive monotypes. Gordy worked until weeks before his death, creating profound and emotional moving monotypes of his different stages of grief and acceptance.
