Description
This poignant 1974 Robert Motherwell lithograph from his Galoises series was published as the cover of a limited edition exhibition catalogue for an exhibition of selected prints at the Jack Glenn Gallery in 1975. The lithographed catalogue was published in a stated edition of 4000, of which only 25 of them were hand signed and numbered; 3975 were not. This work was one of the unsigned catalogues. However, exceptionally, Robert Motherwell hand signed it, along with a lovely ink inscription and dedication to Jacqueline Brody. And what makes this dedication and provenance extra special is that Jacqueline Brody of New York Editor, was an arts writer and editor of Print Collector's Newsletter from 1972 until the publication was sold in 1996. Her archives, which included correspondence with many artists including Robert Motherwell, were donated to the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian institution.
