Description
Printed on plastic, this screenprint is one of Lichtenstein’s first Pop Art prints and the first to be printed on a material other than paper. The image serves as a portrait of mid-century American culture, and the sanitized feel of the sharp lines, the flat color fields, and the bright shiny surface evoke the idealized nature of print advertising. Printed by Sirocco Screenprinters of North Haven under the supervision of Ives-Sillman of New Haven. It is part of a complete set of ten screenprints by ten contemporary artists which was published by the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford.
The rest of this complete portfolio, with work by Stuart Davis, Robert Indiana, Ellsworth Kelly, Robert Motherwell, George Ortman, Larry Poons, Ad Reinhardt, Frank Stella, and Andy Warhol, as well as this work by Roy Lichtenstein, can be seen in the collections section of this gallery listings under the title "Ten Works By Ten Painters."
