“Marilyn Crying” in Wild Pink is by Russel Young, a British Pop artist best known for his large-scale silk screen paintings of cultural icons. The print depicts one of Young’s most popular portraits of the infamous Marilyn Monroe in a distressed state, screen printed with original colors that Young hand-mixes and titles. These pigments are sourced from around the world, from a mountainside in Waimea Canyon, Kauai, to a pigment shop in Florence that dates its lineage to pre-Renaissance times. The art captures his prominent exploration of stardom, excess, and the complicated nature of the American Dream. As of 2022, Young has released his first NFT on SuperRare, a curated marketplace for high quality NFT artworks, portraying the same image of Marilyn but in a variety of his signature colors. The signed piece measures at 62 in. tall and 144 in. wide.

Young’s large-scale silk screen diamond-dust paintings focus on celebrity culture, Hollywood, and the American Dream. His works feature cultural icons spanning generations, from Marilyn Monroe to Kendrick Lamar.
