Ryan McGinness (American b.1972):
Working across a variety of media, from painting and sculpture to site-specific installations and silkscreens, Ryan McGinness creates works that reveal the deep and abiding influences of artists such as Andy Warhol and Takashi Murakami. McGinness frequently uses bright colors and a bold graphic style, as he combines his own iconography with urban signage, transforming an otherwise impersonal and ubiquitous aesthetic into a deeply personal one. McGinness's Black Hole series (2011) featured Technicolor gyroscope drawings that brought whimsy to its geometrical concentric circles, drawing the audience into its continual swirls.
McGinness’s work has been exhibited at numerous public and private institutions, including solo shows at Phillips de Pury and Deitch Projects and group shows at the Andy Warhol Museum, London’s Royal Academy of Art, the Saatchi Gallery, and the Museum of Modern Art.
