Description
Sam Gilliam is celebrated widely as the most influential African American Color Field painter of the 20th century. Gilliam's transcendent and color-drenched oeuvre of over six decades effortlessly spans the genres of painting, sculpture, collage, and printmaking. "WAVE" is a color lithograph Gilliam created during a prolific period in the late 1960s and early 1970s as a member of the Washington Color School. Flooded and saturated with bright green and sky blue, this work displays Gilliam's dedication to boundless experimentation and color expression. There is translucent, watercolor quality to this print as the soft washes of hues meld together. This limited edition print by a preeminent Black artist is an incredibly beautiful addition to any collection.
