Description
Sarah Charlesworth (1947–2013) is best known as an established figure of the Pictures Generation, as well as a prominent conceptual photographer of the 1970s and 1980s. Charlesworth’s influential body of work reveals the constructed nature of visual culture and questions systems of image distribution. Campoli Presti is pleased to present two works from Charlesworth’s iconic Objects of Desire series - a five-part extended series exploring the iconography of popular culture and the desires and values it supports. Charlesworth’s work is included in over forty public collections around the world. She has been the subject of solo exhibitions at a number of institutions, including LACMA, Los Angeles (solo survey); New Museum, New York (solo survey); a retrospective organized by SITE Santa Fe, which travelled to the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C.; and the Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art.
