Complex Forms evokes the artist's signature style of utilizing various planes and filling them primarily with shapes, colors, and lines in a way that is skillfully balanced and gives off an aura of serenity. The present work is one of the five prints from this series and is a previously unrecorded trial proof that varies in sheet size than the numbered edition of 15.
American artist Sol LeWitt is renowned as a founding member of both Minimalist and Conceptual art. He was prolific in a wide range of media including drawing, printmaking, photography, painting, installation, and structures (a term he preferred instead of sculptures). Working in New York from the 1960’s, LeWitt has endeavored to reduce art to the most basic shapes, colors, and lines as is evident in the present work. With his profound studies and deep interest in Old Master paintings combined with his background in graphic design, LeWitt fused the geometric balance of the High Renaissance with modern technology.
