Description
Stephan Kaluza, who also works as a photographer, writer and director, uses photographic strategies in his painting: overexposure and underexposure of his subjects go hand in hand with different sharpness levels, which cannot be captured by any camera lens simultaneously. With the help of such strategies, the depicted landscape is artificially and artistically alienated; the supposed photo-realism is transformed into an irrationality. Kaluza does not copy his images from photographs, but rather chooses photographic details he likes, such as plants, leaves etc., and puts them, piece by piece, together on the canvas. By doing so he creates an artificial landscape that does not exist in reality, and exposes himself as artist as creator.
