Susan Sommer is a contemporary American abstract painter who has been exploring the relationship between the architectonic and the natural based on her enthusiasm for New York City and the Hudson Valley region of New York. Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1950 Sommer had intensive academic figure study training at the Arts Students League of New York and graduated from Moore College of Art and Design in 1972. Sommer’s work can be found in the permanent collections of the de Saisset Museum of the University of Santa Clara, California, the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the Riverside Art Museum in Riverside, California. Notable exhibits include a solo exhibit at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, PA, the Edith Langley Barrett Art Gallery at Utica College, NY and the Edward Williams Gallery, Fairleigh Dickinson College, New Jersey. She has exhibited in numerous venues, including the Schick Art Gallery, Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, the National Arts Club, NY, and the Albany Institute of History and Art, NY.
