Description
Autograph letter signed to his friend the tennis champion Antoine Gentien known as Coco. Nice "Villa Ariem" April 26, 1925; 2 pages in-4° on "Villa Ariem" letterhead.
Beautiful letter of complicity between the champion and her friend and confidant, tennis player Antoine Gentien. That year, Suzanne Lenglen made an important decision in her playing career by deciding to turn professional, followed by an agent. She ended her career two years later, in 1928: "My little Coco...I'm ashamed...but...let's not talk about it anymore...I almost always start my letters like this...I've neglected you a lot...cute. .but I have an excuse at least for this week. Dad has just had surgery...and I spent...and still spend my time at the clinic. I hasten to tell you that he is doing...we couldn't be better for a gentleman whose stomach...his bladder...and removed two stones, one of which was the size of a candied chestnut...what a horror! He tolerated it so well...that an hour after the operation...he was reading his newspaper!...Naturally he was only partially numbed as always in this case. The doctor promises to get up in a week. Me...I only live now with this pleasant prospect of being in Paris in three weeks. I will then train there with enthusiasm in order to raise the Parisian bravos... Tell me about your trip to Catalonia... and tell me if you cherish the hope of accompanying us to London... I read in the papers that you must come in Marseille…It's not possible!!! (Ask "Fifi" for an explanation...in confidence if you don't understand - this charming exclamation-) So...if you're a beau...you'll come see us...even if only for a few days - in Nice..isn't that this step..or else..maybe only the enchanting charms of Penelope……..I had a delicious season..I will tell you all about it..For the moment..I am in the shoes of a lady who is falling asleep...Good evening...Dad and Mom are also taking care of theirs for you...As always...most affectionately in the world... Suzanne. You should take a look at Columbia and tell me what you think of it! Thank you »
