Syntesis bench is an artwork by the English artist: Tom Price. This artwork is available on commission. It will be created on the same basis as shown in the images and under the same conditions. Each piece is unique due to the creative process used.
Tom Price's artistic approach revolves around materials and is mainly led by innovative and experimental creative processes. The artist thinks of himself “as working in collaboration with materials, processes and phenomena, and that the final physical outcome is a product of mutual consent.”
In the Synthesis series, Tom Price forces resin and tar to live in the same space, experimenting with the chemical reactions through heating materials and catalysis process. As the tar fragments inserted into the resin blocks widen, they develop fissures, voids and cracks, modifying the original appearance, colour and characteristics of the resin. A new element is now created by the synthesis of the two. Although the creative process is begun and managed by the artist, the chemical reactions are not fully controlled and the end result is unique each time, exceeding the limits of his imagination. The works of the Synthesis series are pieces of surprising beauty, intriguing and mysterious, drawing in the viewer’s admiration of the detail’s forms, the subtle colour nuances and the changing light reflections. This powerful visual impact is highlighted in some artworks, as in this case, by LED lights (via cable).
Synthesis Bench is one of Tom Price's 'hybrid' artworks sitting halfway between art and design: the piece can be seen exclusively as a sculpture or can also serve as a bench.
The dimensions are for one piece and include the base (height of the base: 10 cm). They are customizable, please contact us for a quote. The artwork is lit by LED tape light (lifetime is around 50,000 hours). Access to the lighting is through a removable end cap in the base, which is held in place by magnets. The lights are mounted on a tray that can be slid out from one end for access. The bench is raised slightly off the floor, which allows the cable to pass through the underside of the bench. The plug-in adaptor has interchangeable heads and is suitable for use in Europe, Asia, the UK and USA. The artist’s signature is on the inside of the end cap.
