Description
This takes the quintessential element of all painting, the brush stroke, and abstracts it to one large stroke. It references Roy Lichtenstein's "Brush Stroke", 1965, which portrays a brush stroke in cartoon form. Here the stroke is amplified, not by creating a laboriously painted one, but by purely painting one at a large scale, with a 5 second hand movement. It takes all meaning away from content and places it within the signification of art practie. The floppy acetate renders the stroke, painted on the back, far more like a photographic image. Each of the series is in this format but entirely different.
