Toots Zynsky
(American, born 1951)
Biography
Toots Zynsky is an American artist whose vibrantly colored vessels are created from melding threads of molten glass onto blown glass. About her distinctive vessels, Zynsky has said, “I have inside, outside, back of the inside, and the other side. You can never see the whole piece at once. There’s always something mysterious, no matter what angle or in what light you’re looking at the piece. It forces you to move around it.” Born Mary Ann Zynsky on March 25, 1951 in Boston, MA, she received her formal training at the Rhode Island School of Design under the famed glass artist Dale Chihuly. Zynsky and Chihuly later founded the Pilchuck Glass School together. She has received two National Endowment for the Arts grants and the Pell Award for Excellence in the Arts. The artist lives and works in Providence, RI.
