Description
Caviar20 is excited to be offering this exquist early example of one of Vasa Mihich's magical "Sphere" sculptures.
Vasa's spheres are highly sought-after by collectors - as they were the most difficult to create. This is one of the earliest spheres Caviar20 has handled.
Resting on a custom clear acrylic stand, the sculpture reveals different colors and densities depending on the lighting and the sculpture's position (or the viewer's). For example, the sphere can appear to have two thin bands through the center, with both top and bottom hemisphere appearing totally clear. Positioned in another way, the entire half of the work can be sky blue.
Vasa is a master at suspending color in acrylic forms. Here a vibrant purple band thinly splices through the centre of the sculpture, in contrast to a range of blues from tropical turquoise and aquamarine to deeper indigo.
Vasa was a Senior Professor of Design at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he taught color theory for many years. For nearly nearly 50 years he has been working in acrylics; whether on canvas or through sculpture.
This is an impressive sculpture with a strong visual impact, yet it can easily be positioned on a desk or console. We are pleased to be offering such a fine early example of Vasa's work.
