Description
Internationally renowned, the Cuban painter Wifredo Lam is the initiator of a mixed painting combining Western modernism and Afro-Caribbean symbols. We also fully feel the influence of the great masters (Picasso, Braque, Matisse, Miro and Léger) whom he worked with before his return to Cuba in 1941. Supported by the New York gallery owner Pierre Matisse, his work “Jungle” was acquired by the Moma and exhibited alongside Picasso's "Demoiselles d'Avignon". His works from this period (1940-1960) are particularly sought-after in the USA and Central and South America.
