Xenia Hausner
(Austrian, born 1951)
Biography
Xenia Hausner is a contemporary Austrian artist known for her dynamically patterned, full-scale paintings of women. Using oil and acrylic paints on dibond—an aluminum composite material—she combines Expressionist and realist practices, similar to the style of American Neo-Expressionist painter Eric Fischl. Throughout her oeuvre, the vibrant, dramatically colored women are either alone or interacting with one or two people, presenting enigmatic narratives. Of her preferred subject matter, the artist has simply stated: “Women are the more attractive gender.” Born in 1951 in Vienna, Austria as the daughter of the painter Rudolf Hausner, she went on to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Her work has been exhibited worldwide, including at Galerie Thomas in Munich, Art Cologne, the Museum Quarter Kunsthalle in Vienna, and Forum Gallery in Los Angeles, among others. Hanser lives and works in Berlin, Germany and Vienna, Austria.
