KATIE DE TILLY presents six exceptional artists from Asia at the 10 Chancery Lane Gallery from 5 December – 26 January 2008.
The artists and their works have been chosen to show the dynamic force of contemporary Asian art here in Hong Kong.
Simon Birch HK/UK (painting), winner of the Louis Vuitton Asian Art Prize 2007 and is an exceptional painter known for his expressive style. Simon Birch has made a huge impact with his energy and vision. His critically acclaimed dramatic paintings continue to be a favourite of discerning collectors.
William Furniss HK/UK (photography), Whether we are drawn to the action packed reportage images or the serene black and white views of the city, Furniss seeks to draw the viewer right inside our metropolis. Creating his effects through pure camera work, Furniss uses traditional techniques to realize modern images.
Irene Lau Kwai Ying HK (ceramics) Lau’s sculptures are visual illusions, somehow suggesting suppleness and softness in the pieces she creates.
Winus Lee Yee Mei HK (ceramics), known for her beautiful work with the female form, the sensual power of her pieces is undeniable.
Dinh Q. Lê Vietnam (recent photo weavings), Lê’s works based on traditional Vietnamese mat weaving, uses photographs resulting in layering images that can take time for the viewer to see all the of the images with in the composition. Lê’s woven photographs have been exhibited in the Italian Pavilion of the Venice Biennale in 2003.
Guo Wei China (painting) Guo Wei is an internationally acclaimed painter having exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney. Guo Wei is one of the community of artists from Chengdu, Sichuan province. This group of paintings having been inspired by Internet sex sites continues his expression of individuals among a collective whole. He is known for his paintings of teenage children during their restless adolescence.
