1937: Family moved to Chongqing, China. Became interested in painting, literature and music
1947: Awarded a scholarship to study in the USA
1951: Graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mount Saint Vincent College, New York, USA
1952: Taught art appreciation, painting, and drawing in private high schools in the New York area, USA
1953: Received Masters Degree in Art Education from New York University, New York, USA
1954: Worked as a guide at the United Nations and studied at the Art Student League, New York, USA
1955: Participated in a group show in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
1956: Joined the accounting department at the United Nations, New York, USA
1961: Assigned to work with the UN in former Belgian Congo
1967: Joined the UN Interpretation Section as a simultaneous interpreter
