Köteles Róbert Pál lives and works in Salonta. He studied painting between 1993 and 1998 with the Arts University in Timișoara in Professor Constantin Flondor's class. During his last year in university he set up the conceptual bases of his painting technique. According to his working stages and research topics, his art has nothing in common with any trend in the environment and is based on personal elements. His artistic vocabulary is marked by subjectiveness. His art is not associated to any local context, tradi-tions or art schools and is instead the measure of a personal game engaging both thinking and practice. In his works, painting technique has turned into a subject of research and production in itself. He remains in Timișoara after finishing his studies until November 2001, a period in which he is employed in various art related jobs which nevertheless do not provide an artist status to him. In his search for some more relaxed time to practice painting and a greater existential comfort, he decides to return to Salonta, his home town. Between 2002 and 2007 his works were included in many collective shows in Romania and abroad. In 2005 he organises his first solo show, Hypercepție [Hyper-Perception], at the ArTei Gallery (Hanul cu Tei). His next show came three years later at the Pygmalion Gallery in Timișoara. In 2009 he started working in cinematography and designs the set for the film Morgendirected by Marian Crișan, a practice he returns to in 2012 for the film Rockerby the same director. His painting grows intense again in 2010 when he is given the chance to participate in several exhibitions. He is invited in arts residencies in Fance and then he shows his works in France, Hungary, The Netherlands and Italy and starts working with independent galleries. In 2011 he launches the series of works Foreverwith a solo show at the Călina Gallery in Timișoara and in 2013 he has the solo show Centrumat the Brâncoveanu Palaces Cultural Centre in Mogoşoaia. The series of works Kromois first shown in a solo show in 2015 at the Pál Art Gallery in Miercurea Ciuc.
