The 9th edition of Paris Asian Art Fair, Asia NOW is set to spotlight the ever-evolving landscape of contemporary Asian art. This esteemed event unfolds at the historic Monnaie de Paris, featuring 65 leading contemporary art galleries from all over the world, presenting more than 220 artists coming from 26 territories. Asia NOW serves as an enticing gateway to explore the rich tapestry of Asian art, from all over Asia and its diaspora, stretching from Central Asia to Asia-Pacific, including West, South, South-East and East Asia. Asia NOW continues to demonstrate its awareness of and contribution to the issues facing the world.
Anna Laudel contributes to the fair´s credo by being one of the only galleries having operational points in both Germany and Turkey. Showcasing the works of artists from Turkey including Ramazan Can, Tugce Diri, Ekin Su Koc, Sarp Kerem Yavuz and Hanefi Yeter, Anna Laudel will contribute to the ongoing discourse in contemporary art within the Asian market.
At Asia NOW, a diverse collection of artworks comes together through the intertwining of personal narratives with cultural history and the reinvention of ancient craftsmanship. Four distinct artists bring forth their unique perspectives using various media and materials. Ramazan Can seamlessly blends fabrics from his family's textile archive with modern urban concrete in a thought-provoking display. Tugce Diri's intricate stitching and abstract drawings are born from photographs of Istanbul's waste mountains, deeply influenced by her mother's lifelong work as a seamstress.
Ekin Su Koc reimagines ancestral textiles as plaster brick-like sculptures, evoking the transformations of old family homes in West Berlin. Meanwhile, Sarp Kerem Yavuz takes on queerness, masculinity, and cultural heritage, projecting traditional Ottoman tile patterns onto bare bodies in the "Masallah" series. Finally, Hanefi Yeter's amphorae gracefully remind us of our past and our ever-evolving relationship with nature.
Anna Laudel’s selection of Asia NOW offers a vivid tapestry where personal stories and cultural evolution are beautifully, yet also intellectually interwoven. Showcasing the enduring power of artistic creativity in Turkey’s ever-changing social and cultural dynamics, Anna Laudel´s booth can be found at Asia NOW Court Mansart, M11, throughout the entire duration of The Paris Asian Art Fair, Asia NOW from 20th - 22nd October 2023.
