Anna Laudel is delighted to announce its participation in one of the world's leading contemporary art fairs Zonamaco in Mexico City from February 8 to 12, 2023, presenting a special selection of artworks recently produced by contemporary artist Lal Batman.

As the largest art fair in Latin America, the 2023 edition of Zonamaco will bring artists from different countries, combining contemporary art, modern art, design, photography and antiques.

Attracting art lovers from all over the world, the Galleries Section of the fair consists of 4 parts including the Main Section, Modern Art, Ejes and Sur. Participating in an international art fair with a solo presentation for the first time, Lal Batman will be represented by Anna Laudel at the Sur section.

Curated by Luiza Teixeira de Freitas, this year's theme for Sur is about feminine, female embodiment and empowerment. Batman’s special selection for this section includes a wide range of works including oil paintings, installations and interactive works produced by digital and plastic art materials.

Referring to her previous exhibitions Exposé and Antract, Batman's works focus on how digital platforms contribute to socio-cultural change. Batman explores how digital communication technologies are used in everyday life. Inspired by observations and questioning of contemporary visual culture, Batman’s each selected work reflects our intertwined bodies, images and minds. Simultaneously, the artist connects with the erotic nature of today’s desires to expose, reveal, watch (and to be watched), follow (and to be followed), peek and (to be peeked), and adds her own interpretations to these phenomena.

Lal Batman’s solo selection, presented by Anna Laudel can be visited at Zonamaco Art Fair in Mexico City (Sur section, Booth ZMS 11) from February 8 to 12, 2023.

Lal Batman

Lal Batman was born in 2001 in Bursa, Turkey, and started the undergraduate program in Plastic Arts at Yeditepe University in 2019. She participated in various fairs and symposiums including Athens (4th International Athens Art Symposium by UNESCO, 2017), Varna (Boris Georgiev Gallery & Varna City Gallery, 2017), Tokyo (Tokyo Metropolitan Museum, 2018), and Miami (Historic Art District, 2019). Her short film “Strange Man” received an award at the “Repeat All” International Short Film Festival organized by the Konstantin Preslavsky University of Shumen held in 2017.

Creating her style by blending digital and plastic mediums and techniques, Lal Batman works on concept-oriented projects by using video art, digital manipulation, installation sculpture, and oil painting productions. Thus, she enables her audience to experience the world she constructs with her versatile productions in eclectic formats.

With the aim of understanding and experiencing the dialogue between the audience and the artwork, Lal Batman has independently curated art and design-oriented projects at various organizations, initiatives, and agencies. With her selection of works, her exhibition titled “Love Over Entropy” was held at Anna Laudel Gallery (2020). Invited by the Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture at MEF University, Lal Batman joined Design Week as a guest coordinator, where she touched upon the autonomous features of art and architecture practices and conducted studio studies in which she explored the intertwined structure of interdisciplinary networks (2021). Since 2021, she continues working with Curator & Sociologist Ebru Yetişkin. Batman lives and works both in Istanbul, Turkey, and Belgrade, Serbia. She also works as an independent designer at a design agency in Milan.
