Studied interior design, sculpture and architecture at the Kunstgewerbeschule (School of Decorative Arts) and the Technische Hochschule, Hanover
1924
Studio in the house of the Kestner Gessellschaft. Founded Gruppe K together with Hans Nitschke. First met Kurt Schwitters, Hans Arp and Theo Van Doesburg. Became a member of Der Sturm in Berlin.
1925
Became a member of De Stijl. Met Vantongerloo, Brancusi, Man Ray and Tristan Tzara in Paris.
1927
Founder member (together with Kurt Schwitters and Carl Buchheister) of Die Abstakten Hannover, and an association of commercial designers, the Ring Neuer Werbegestalter
1932
Founder member of Abstraction Creation, Paris. Married Ilse Leda.

Lived in Berlin
