LEGACY: A Benefit Exhibition of
Works by Capp Street Project Alumnae
11 July – 22 August 2003
Opening reception: Friday, July 11, 6-8pm
In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Capp Street Project, Anthony
Meier Fine Arts is pleased to host a benefit exhibition of works by Capp Street
Project alumnae. All works in the exhibition have been generously donated by
the participating artists and proceeds from the show will go towards future Capp
Street Project programs.
Capp Street Project, a nationally recognized artist-in-residence program
dedicated to the production of site-specific installations, was founded in 1983 by
Ann Hatch. The project’s name came from the address of its initial exhibition
space, a building at 65 Capp Street in San Francisco that was designed by
conceptual artist and architect David Ireland. At the time, Capp Street Project
was the only visual arts organization dedicated solely to commissioning and
exhibiting site-specific installation art. In the twenty years of its
existence, Capp Street Project has given more than one hundred artists the opportunity
to create new work through its residency and public exhibition programs. In
1998, Capp Street Project merged with the Institute of Exhibitions and Public
Programming at the California College of Arts and Crafts (CCAC) and became part
of CCAC’s Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts.
The CCAC Wattis Institute serves as a forum for the presentation and
discussion of leading-edge local, national and international contemporary culture.
Through exhibitions, the Capp Street Project residency program fosters lectures,
symposia, performances and publications in the fields of art, architecture and
design. The CCAC Wattis Institute encourages interaction among the students
and faculty of CCAC, the art, architecture and design communities, and the
public at large.
