Atrium Gallery announces an upcoming exhibition, “Summertime Prints.”      Featured will be new prints by well-noted printmakers, Steven Sorman and Jeanine Coupe Ryding.  Both are nationally recognized with good histories of notable museum work and other public and corporate as well as private collections.  The exhibition will present woodcuts from each of them showing where they are going in their mid to late careers.  Their sophisticated handling of the medium is apparent and commands a close look at these outstanding print works.  Both artists have been active internationally as well as in the US.  Sorman has particularly enjoyed exhibiting in Scandinavia.  Ryding received her MFA from Hochschule fur bildende Kunste, Berlin and has continued to actively exhibit her work in Europe.  She has received extensive recognition for her innovative practice and unusual materials.  Recently retired from her teaching position at the Art Institute of Chicago, she remains active as a founding member of the Mid America Print Council and also with additional print associations.      Steven Sorman continues his impressive position in the world of contemporary art with fresh new wood block prints.  He is well known internationally for his innovative print making.  A veteran artist with so many accomplishments, he continues to explore and develop new work.  He is included in the collections of almost 50 major museums in the US and abroad including in Australia, Amsterdam, Singapore, and London.  US museums holding his work include The Met, Smithsonian, Art Institute Chicago, DeYoung, Fogg (Harvard), National Gallery, DC, Walker, Whitney, and in St. Louis, the St. Louis Art Museum and Washington University Museum (Kemper).  This summer show brings together current work from two long time Atrium artists who are both very distinguished and are also in their prime.  The exhibition opens Friday, June 16 and runs through July 22.  There will be an Opening Reception Friday evening, 6-8 pm with artist talk by Jeanine Coupe Ryding.  For more information and images please contact the gallery.
