Atrium announces an upcoming exhibition, “Fall Bounty,” featuring nationally recognized artist, Mary Joan Waid.  The exhibition is a celebration of the bounty presented by the lush fruits of fall harvest and the experience encountered in the fall foliage and blooms. Waid is a very accomplished artist who produces aesthetic imagery through an intense process of working with light, shape, texture, balance, and symbol.  Her practice is filled with concentration, study, and experimentation with a very strong attention to detail.  Every work is from a long intellectual experience producing sophisticated, and at the same time, subtle elements that inform each image. Waid is not replicating what she encounters, but in a more classical way, following the practice of the admired still-life artists from the Renaissance and beyond.     Waid grew up in the Midwest and received her BFA from Wichita State University.  She then relocated to NYC to make her mark in the art world there.  Recognition followed and she was soon beginning her career as a respected and collected still life and figurative artist. Now, 60 years into her career and with much energy and experience, she continues this path with substantial new and very accomplished works. Between her studio in Manhattan and her summer cottage in Vermont, the inspiration never wains.  In addition to her exhibition experience, her work has also found its way into many private, corporate, and public collections. Atrium is very pleased to present this, our fourth solo show for Waid with many recent, as well as, classic works. Waid has been shown at Atrium since 1997.    The Opening Reception will be Thursday, October 5, 6-8 pm.  This event will also celebrate the 37th anniversary of Atrium’s Opening in the Old Post Office building in downtown St. Louis.  The Exhibition runs through November 25.
