Atrium Gallery announces an upcoming exhibition “Reflection/Inspiration,” an extensive show of new and significant work by international artist LORE BERT. Based in Mainz, Germany and Venice, Bert just celebrated both an 85th birthday and the publication of a comprehensive book, “Walking Through Life.” This biographical book was done primarily from her handwritten notes commenting on her career path as a highly respected and honored artist exhibiting literally all over the world. It includes 1,400 images and with text translated from her writing over three years. While many of the planned exhibitions celebrating her birthday have been cancelled or rescheduled (due to Covid restrictions), currently she has a solo one at the famed Gutenberg Museum under the patronage of the Ministry President, and in September also one in Mallorca (Spain). Known extensively in her home, Germany, the three-time Venice Biennale exhibitor also has shown and has been actively collected in Africa, Asia, North and Central America, and Scandinavia. Her primary medium is handmade paper, fashioned into dimensional works mainly expressed with geometric forms, often encased in plexi. She is also known for major installation projects mainly in historically and architecturally significant structures. One of Bert’s more recent interests is Chinese characters which she has depicted in a large series. Several of these are included in this exhibition, along with the larger dimensional paper works of more symbolic forms. Lore Bert expresses deep philosophical thoughts and has a global outlook on humanity that is subtly and thematically expressed in her elegant works. The work has a freshness and clarity that seems to emanate from her profound insight into the human condition, honed over a long and very active life. Atrium has been exhibiting Bert’s work for over 20 years now and we are so pleased to introduce for a first look in the US, some of her most recent works. She and her German dealer, Dorothea van der Koelen, are available for Zoom interviews, should you wish to explore deeper details. Atrium also has an extensive library of published books on Lore Bert including the new “Walking Through Life.” The exhibition will open Friday September 17th  with a reception from 6-8pm and will run through Friday November 19th.
