Atrium Gallery announces an upcoming exhibition featuring a collection of works by the late William Yonker.  Shown will be a range of his ceramic works from several decades.  The exhibition will present his iconic platters, vessels, and also a couple of his modernist teapots.  Bill studied at Washington University receiving both a BA in painting and a MFA in ceramics.  Early in his career, he was fortunate to be included as photographer for the National Geographic Based “Odyssey Project,” an archaeological excavation in Greece.  This inspired a concentration on creating pottery works, a continuing focus for his career.  He said, “I try to incorporate the image of the fragments that inspired me.” He was a meticulous craftsman and sophisticated intellectual who combined his interests and talents to create a substantial inventory of respected ceramic works.  These have been exhibited nationally and also in Italy during a residency in Cortona.  Yonker had a very well respected reputation as an active St. Louis artist.  He has work in numerous private collections and is represented in several corporate and public collections as well, including St. Louis University, MICDS (Mary Institute Country Day School), Landmark Bank Shares, St. Louis, Washington University, St. Louis, and First National Bank, Columbia, MO.

The exhibition opens Friday, September 9 and runs through September 30.  Opening Reception 6:00-8:00 pm.
