These two photographers, masters of installations, have always explored themes that emphasize the strange, the

surreal, in order to reveal « chimeras ».

In Joel-Peter Witkin’s work, we are surrounded by strange beings, between realistic and fantastic creatures. Through

a work of hybridization, he gives body to beings that relate to all species without belonging to any.

As for Patrick Bailly-Maître-Grand, he metamorphoses everyday objects or objects purchased in flea markets. In Recto

Verso a Plexiglas figurine gives birth to a kind of four-armed Martian, with bones everywhere and a two-faced head

who does not know which side to look at.

These two photographers are also outstanding technicians, who explore the inventiveness of the photographic act in

the intimacy of the laboratory, through various manipulations and formulas, and reveal to us a poetic and conceptual

imagination.
