The artist Herbert Maier creates painterly structures weaving over an empty space - hollow bodies, which, through superimposed layers of color, elude their actual property of invisibility and become visible to us as viewers.

In our hanging we show two current series of works by the artist: Speicher malanggan and Speicher neuronal. The titles initially promise mundane approaches, but Maier's works are not to be understood in terms of content; rather, the painterly development of forms and space have been captured in associations familiar to us.
The knots and webs entwining themselves create a deep space, which in its actual nature can only be guessed at. The emptiness as the revealed field of tension, which is not visible in the true sense, but vibrates like an electric pole.

The series of works "Speicher / Raumschnitt" plays with our awareness of surface and space. Spatial perception of a work of art is an illusion. Painting is always two-dimensional, only through technical tricks a three-dimensional space opens up. Herbert Maier shows sections and cross-sections of spaces, such as an architectural vault, which actively oscillate between two- and three-dimensionality and elude definition.

Come and visit us, we look forward to seeing you!
