we are pleased to announce that Bode Gallery Korea in Seoul/South Korea will open a solo show with artist Woo Jong Taek on March 21, 2022.

The exhibition has been organized in cooperation with Kimreeaa Gallery and will feature works on paper on hanji and painting on canvas from Woo Jong Taek's current, as well as older work cycles.

All works of the oeuvre bear the same title "Memory of Origin", a reference to the question that accompanies the artist through his creative process. Woo Jong Taek traces the most basic question of mankind: the origin of all being.

The painting process is always based on a meditative attitude, the artist approaches nature not only physically but also spiritually. As with traditional Zen painting, the foundation of the works lies in their deep understanding of nature. Meditating in nature, the knowledge of the forces arising there, forms the basis of internalization, which then appears in the eruptive image genesis on the painting surface.

The artist's reflection on himself and nature is clothed in a pictorial language that leaves behind the conventional notion of abstract and representational. His lines refer to nothing but themselves, they delimit neither representational nor non-representational forms.
